FSU Takes Third At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team finished third overall in the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships after final round play on Saturday (April 23).

The Bulldogs carded a 334 over Saturday's final 18 holes of action at the Country Club of Ashland (Ohio) to finish with a three-round effort of 1,004 strokes or +140 for the tournament.

Defending champion Grand Valley State shot a 317 on Saturday to finish in first place at 966 with host Ashland carding a final round total of 334 to earn runner-up honors with a 969 team score.  Findlay took fourth place at 1,016 strokes in the eight-team field.

Ashland's Erin Misheff earned medalist honors with a 230 (+14) for the tournament.  Another Ashland golfer, Annie Miles, claimed runner-up laurels at 235 (+19) to earn 2011 GLIAC Golfer of the Year Award laurels.

Ferris State's Jacqueline DeBoer earned GLIAC Freshman of the Year Award accolades after finishing tied for sixth overall with a team-best total of 246 (+30) for the three rounds.

FSU freshman Emily Rohdy also placed in the top 10 overall as she came in ninth with a score of 249 (+33), which included a final round score of 82 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs' Brooke Rodes, a junior, was 14th overall at 253 (+37) while both junior Blaize Baumgartner and junior Bryce Hetchler tied for 17th at 257 (+41).  Hetchler competed as an individual and did not figure into the team score.

In addition to being tabbed as the GLIAC's Freshman of the Year, DeBoer claimed All-GLIAC First Team accolades.  Rhody was a second-team honoree while Baumgartner earned honorable mention kudos.

The Bulldogs will await their postseason fate as the 2011 NCAA Division II Tournament field will be announced this week.  The NCAA Division II Super Regional One event will take place May 1-3 at Cedar Brook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pa.  The top three teams from the super regional event will move on to the 2011 NCAA-II Championships hosted by Grand Valley State at The Meadows Golf Course from May 11-14.
