Ferris State Occupies Seventh Place Following NCAA Regional's First Round

A 340-team stroke total turned in by the Ferris State University women's golf team in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Division II Super Regional One this Sunday (May 1) afternoon has the Bulldogs currently in seventh place among nine teams competing at the par 72, Cedarbrook Golf Gold Course in Belle Vernon, Pa.

The Bulldogs, who carded a first-round 340 score (+52), presently trail Drury (336, +48) by four strokes.  Grand Valley State currently leads the field with a first-place 321-stroke total (+33) followed by Ashland (327, +39) and host California, Pa. (329, +41).  Indianapolis (330, +42) is in fourth place while Missouri-St. Louis (334, +46) occupies fifth place.

Freshman Jacqueline DeBoer (Grand Rapids/South Christian) carded a team-best 81 score (+9) and is among three individuals tied for ninth place.  DeBoer, a 2011 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First-Team selection and the GLIAC's Freshman of the Year, is currently five strokes in back of Ashland's Erin Misheff (76, +4) and Grand Valley State's Allie Tyler (76, +4) for top individual honors.

Junior Brooke Rodes (Traverse City/West) is midst a six-way tie for 22nd place after firing an 84 score (+12) while junior Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley) shot an 86 (+14), which ties her for 31st place with three other individuals.

Rounding out the Bulldogs' scoring in day one are junior Blaize Baumgartner (Perry), who produced a 41st-place tying 89 score (+17) and freshman Emily Rohdy (Farwell), who's alone in 45th place following a 91-stroke total (+19).  Rohdy was a second-team all-conference pick this season while Baumgartner achieved all-league honorable mention recognition.  

FSU will start second round play this Monday (May 2) morning.  The Bulldogs will attempt to move up in the team standings to earn a berth into the 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships (May 8-13) in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Michael Mignano, are marking their 10th consecutive regional tournament appearance to date.

The top three teams along with the top three individual finishers not affiliated with a team from each super regional will advance to the national championships.
