Bulldog Women's Golf Places 13th At Michigan Wolverine Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team wrapped up the annual Michigan Wolverine Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 23) with its best round of the two-day tournament to finish 13th overall at the UM Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Bulldogs shot rounds of 332 and 343 in day one action on Saturday (Sept. 22) followed by a final round 328 score on Sunday to finish at 1,003 for the tournament or +151 for the event.

The Bulldogs were one of only two non-Division I schools in the field of 14 along with Grand Valley State.

Host Michigan and Florida International tied for the team title with a 930 total as a playoff was not held.  Three other schools tied for third place at 933, including Xavier, Illinois and Eastern Michigan.

There was also a three-way tie for the individual medalist nod as EMU's Alyssa Kwon, Alicia Weber of Michigan and Meghan MacLaren of FIU all posted 227 scores (+14) in the three-round event.

Freshman Cooper Shawen led the Bulldogs as she placed tied for 49th overall with a 248 score on rounds of 85, 82 and 91 overall.

Behind Shawen was senior Ashley Swanson, who tied for 52nd with a 249 figure.  She carded marks of 79, 88 and 82.  She was followed by junior Jacqueline DeBoer in 57th place at 251 with scores of 83, 85 and 83.

Junior Emily Rohdy placed 79th in the draw with a 262 score as she carded figures of 85, 88 and 89.  She was closely followed by freshman Libby Berens in 80th place at 263 on rounds of 92, 89 and 82.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Grand Valley State Laker Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29-30, at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale.
