Women's Golf Earns Runner-Up Honors At Northwood Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team had its opening round of the weekend cancelled, but put together an impressive performance on Sunday (April 21) to earn runner-up honors at the Northwood Invitational held in Midland, Mich.

The first round of the nine-team invitational was cancelled on Saturday due to the weather and extremely cold wind chills and play was reduced to a single round of 18 holes on Sunday at Currie West Golf Club.

The Bulldogs carded a 310 team score and finished only four strokes behind champion Ashland, which posted a 306 team score for the round.

Ferris State was paced by Libby Berens, who tied for fourth individually with a 75.  She was followed by junior Emily Rohdy in a tie for seventh place with a 77 on the day.

FSU's Jacqueline DeBoer carded a 78 to finish in a tie for 11th place overall while Ashley Swanson registered an 80 to placed tied for 17th in the field.

Rounding out the Bulldog lineup was Cooper Shawen, who tied for 20th with an 82 in the event.

A pair of Bulldogs also competed as individuals with Taylor Gould placing tied for 29th overall with an 86 and Elizabeth Bauernfeind registering an 87, which was good for a share of 43rd place.

The Bulldogs placed one stroke ahead of Grand Valley State, which finished third with a 311 score. Findlay was fourth (312) and host Northwood fifth (336) in the tournament.

The individual winner was Findlay's Lauren Vogt, who carded a three-under par 69 for the round on the par 72 course measuring 5,813 yards.

The Bulldogs will take part in the 2013 GLIAC Championships slated to be held April 26-28 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
