Women's Golf Posts Fifth-Straight Top Three Tourney Finish In Spring Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team had another strong showing at a spring tournament as the Bulldogs took third place overall of 12 competing teams at the IPFW Spring Classic hosted by Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday and Monday (April 6-7) in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Bulldogs, who were tied for the first day lead after shooting a 300 team score on Sunday, finished with a 616 figure over the two rounds to place third overall behind tournament champion Indianapolis (612) and second-place Youngstown State (614). FSU was only four strokes out of first place following a 316 team score in the final round on the par 72 course at Chestnut Hills Golf Club.

The showing marks the fifth-straight event in as many tournament this spring in which the Bulldogs have placed among the top three teams overall. The IPFW Spring Classic included 10 NCAA Division I teams along with FSU and UIndy.

Ferris State was led by Libby Berens, who tied for 12th individually with a 154 on rounds of 74 and 80 over the two days, respectively.

Behind Berens was senior Jacqueline Mulder in a share of 15th place with a 155 total. She posted a first-round 77 followed by a 78 over the final 18 holes of action.

The Bulldogs also had two other competitors place in the top 20 overall as seniors Ashley Swanson and Emily Rohdy both tied for 20th in the field. They each shot a 157 for the two rounds with Swanson posting scores of 72 and 85 while Rohdy carded figures of 77 and 80 in the event.

Finally, Elizabeth Bauernfeind tied for 40th with a 162 on rounds of 84 on day one followed by 78 in the final round.

FSU's Kelsey McKinley competed as an individual and was 50th overall at 166 with scores of 87 and 79.

Youngstown State's Allison Mitzel was the individual champion with a 147 score as she totaled a first-day 74 before firing a 73 on Monday.

The Bulldogs are next back in action on April 13-14 at the JBMF Cavalier Classic in Canton, Ohio.
