Ferris State Women's Golf Takes Fifth Overall At Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team completed weekend action with a fifth-place team performance on Sunday (Sept. 27) at the 2015 Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite hosted by Grand Valley State University at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale.

The Bulldogs registered a two-round 656 team score in the par 72 event with rounds of 326 on Saturday followed by 330 on Sunday.

The tournament was won by Missouri-St. Louis with a 610 team score. Host GVSU finished second (617), Findlay placed third (620) and Ashland was fourth (638) in front of the Bulldogs. A total of 13 teams were in the field.

Senior Libby Berens paced the Bulldogs as she tied for 15th place overall with a 159 score. Berens shot a 77 in round one before carding a 82 in the final 18 holes of action.

After Berens was freshman Destiny Lawson and junior Kelsey McKinley, who both tied for 26th in the field with 164 figures. Lawson shot 81 on day one before notching an 83 on Sunday with McKinley's scores the exact opposite via a first-round 83 and a 81 in the final round.

Sophomore Gianna Dela Cruz came in tied for 41st overall at 169 on rounds of 85 and 84, respectively. Finally, freshman Sydney Murphy tied for 55th in the field at 178 by shooting an 88 Saturday and a 90 on Sunday.

Ferris State also had a pair of golfers compete as individuals in the tournament. Junior Jordan Duvall tied for 23rd overall at 163 on rounds of 82 and 81 while sophomore Sirinporn Phakamad placed tied for 30th with a 165 shore. She shot a first-round 87 before improving by nine strokes with a 78 on the final day.

Ferris State hits the links again on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3-4, as the Bulldogs compete in the Ashland University Invitational to be held in Ashland, Ohio.
