Ferris State In Eighth Place After Day One At GLIAC Women's Golf Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team shot an opening-round 338 team score and is currently in eighth place overall following day one competition on Friday (April 21) at the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship in Nashport, Ohio.

FSU is only six strokes out of fifth place overall in the annual league event being contested at The Virtues Golf Club. The first day leader is Findlay, which carded a 308 team total, followed by Northern Michigan (311), Grand Valley State (320), Ashland (325) and Saginaw Valley State (332) in the top five overall.

The Bulldogs' Destiny Lawson shot a two-over par 74 in round one and is currently tied for second place individually at the league championships. She's only one shot behind day one leader Makenzie Torres of Findlay, who shot a 73 on Friday.

Meanwhile, teammate Mari Suokko carded an 84 and is tied for 29th in the field with Elizabeth Bauernfeind in a share of 44th place with a first-round 89 figure.

FSU's Morgan Zloto fired a 91 and is tied for 52nd in the field following first day action with Olivia Pizii tied for 56th after notching a 93 in the first round.

The 2017 GLIAC Championships consist of 54 holes as the teams will play one round per day thru Sunday.  The low four of five scores will count towards the respective team score for each squad.

Action continues with round two play on Saturday (April 22) at The Virtues, which measures 5,926 yards from the women's tees.
