Bulldog Women's Golf Finishes Ninth Overall At 2017 GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team wrapped up the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships with a ninth-place league finish on Sunday (April 23) at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

Ferris State shot a 337 team score in Sunday's final round, which was FSU's best score of the three rounds in the 54-hole league championship event. The Bulldogs had carded a 338 in round one along with a 343 in round two to finish at 1,017 or +49 for the three days of competition.

The Bulldogs' Destiny Lawson finished ninth overall in the individual field as she shot a 238 for the tournament. After carding a 74 in round one Friday and an 83 in the second round on Saturday, she closed the weekend with an 81 in the final round.

Senior Elizabeth Bauernfeind placed tied for 29th with a 252 total following her final round 79 score on Sunday. It bettered her first two round scores of 89 and 84 on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

FSU's Morgan Zloto came in 46th overall with a 262 figure after shooting an 88 in the final round. She had opened the event with a 91 in round one before notching an 83 in the middle 18 holes of action.

Ferris State's Mari Suokko placed 50th overall and was seven strokes behind Zloto with a 269 total. Her best score came in round one with an 84 followed by a 92 on Saturday before finishing with a 93 in Sunday's competition.

Finally, Olivia Pizii wound up 57th overall in the field at 282 for the weekend. She also had her best score on Sunday with an 89 after posting a 93 in round one and a 100 score in round two.

The 2017 GLIAC Championships consisted of 54 holes as the teams played one round per day from Friday thru Sunday.  The low four of five scores counted towards the respective team score for each squad.

In 2016, The Virtues Golf Club was ranked as the number one public course in Ohio and among the top 100 public golf courses in America, by Golf Digest. It measured 5,926 yards from the women's tees.
