Bulldog Women's Golf Places Third In Opening Action Of The Spring

Big Rapids, Mich.- The Ferris State University women's golf team officially opened its spring season by placing third overall in the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff held Wednesday thru Friday (March 6-8) in Tampa, Fla.

The Bulldogs shot a three-round score of 1,045 at +181 for the event on the par 72 Saddlebrook course measuring 5,833 yards.

A total of four teams competed with Tiffin claiming first (981) followed by Northern Michigan (989) in second, FSU in third and Walsh in fourth (1069).

FSU was led by freshman Mackenzie Dale, who shot a 250 (+6) score for the three rounds of action and placed fifth overall. After a first-round 91, she shot a 81 in round two and closed with a 78 over the final 18 holes of action.

The Bulldogs' Elaina DeRose, also a freshman, came in tied for 11th overall at 259 (+43) on rounds of 85 Wednesday followed by back-to-back 87 scores the final two days.

Ferris State junior Shayna Schneider placed tied for 14th in the field with a 268 (+52) score as she carded a 94 in the opening round before shooting a 90 in round two and an 84 in the final round.

Junior Mari Suokko finished 17th in the draw with a 272 figure (+56). She fired back-to-back 91's the first two days and wrapped up the tourney with a 90 on Friday.

The Bulldogs' Emma Polski placed tied for 22nd at 292 (+14) with a first-round 101 and a second-round 105 total followed by an 86 in the last round for the freshman.

Ferris State opened the tournament with a 361 team score on Wednesday and shot a 349 on Thursday along with a final-round 335 figure on Friday.

FSU is next slated to take part in the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational set for Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, in Georgetown, Ky.
