Ferris State Women's Golf Eighth After Day One At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team shot a first-round 336 team figure on Friday (April 19) and is currently eighth overall following day one action in the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships.

The Bulldogs carded a +48 figure in the 10-team event taking place at the Stonehedge Golf Club's North Course near Battle Creek.

FSU freshman Mackenzie Dale shot a team-best 78 score in round one and is tied for seventh in the field while Elaina DeRose posted an 82 and is currently tied for 21st overall.

Bulldog junior Margo Brown is tied for 35th following the first 18 holes of action after shooting an 86 in the first round with Shayna Schneider in 44th place with a 90 in the opening round.

Finally, the Bulldogs' Mari Suokko posted a 96 on Friday and is 50th on the leaderboard heading into round two.

The event is being held this year in Augusta, Mich., with action at the Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort near Battle Creek.

Action continues with second-round play starting on Saturday at 9 a.m. (ET).

The 2019 GLIAC Championships feature a new format with each league school competing in 36 holes of stroke play with a single round per day on both Friday and Saturday. The low four of five scores will count towards the respective team score for each squad.

Following round two, the top four teams will advance to head-to-head medal play on Sunday with a bracket format similar to the current format utilized at the NCAA Championships. The two winning teams following semifinal-round play will advance to the finals in which a GLIAC Champion will be crowned.
