Ferris State Women's Golf Claims Runner-Up Honors In Saddlebrook Spring Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team had a strong start to the spring season as the Bulldogs earned runner-up honors in the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff held in Florida.

The Bulldogs shot a three-round 990 team score in the event, which took place Thursday thru Saturday at the Saddlebrook Course and the Palmer Course in Wesley Chapel, Fla. 

Ferris State shot a first-round 338 team score followed by a 322 figure in round two and a final-round 330 total to place second of the seven competing teams. Tiffin finished first (955) with Walsh in third (991) a stroke behind the Bulldogs.

FSU's Destiny Lawson placed third overall as she carded a 237 figure for the event on rounds of 83, 74 and 80 in the three days of action.

Lawson was followed by Elaina Derose in a share of seventh place with a 243 total. Her score included rounds of 84, 78 and 81 over the three days of competition, respectively.

The Bulldogs' Makenzie Dale came in tied for 15th with a 249 figure on rounds of 84, 88 and 77 with Shayna Schneider posting a 270 total for 26th place with scores of 95, 83 and 92.

Finally, the Bulldogs' Margo Brown placed 49th in the field as she shot back-to-back 87 scores in the first two rounds before not registering a final-round score.

Ferris State also had a trio of players compete as individuals with Abby Grevel leading the way in a tie for 19th place overall at 258 for the tournament. She shot rounds of 87, 85 and 86 overall. 

Meanwhile, Hallie Boles came in 27th at 273 on scores of 90, 93 and 90 with Mari Suokko tied for 38th at 289 on rounds of 98, 93, and 98.

Ferris State is next slated to compete in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational set for March 14-15 in Georgetown, Ky.
