Ferris State Women's Golf Finishes Season-Opening Event Tied For Fifth Overall

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team opened its 2021 campaign this weekend with a strong performance, sharing fifth place overall in a large field at the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational which was contested in Georgetown, Ky.

The Bulldogs shot a 646 figure for the two rounds of action at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course, placing tied for fifth along with McKendree at +70 for the weekend in 36 holes of action. FSU shot a 329 score in the opening round on Saturday and then lowered the mark by 12 strokes with a 317 total on Sunday.

Tiffin claimed first place in the 17-team field with a 617 total (+41) followed by Wayne State and Northwood, which both tied for second place at 629 (+53). Saginaw Valley State took fourth place at 631 (+55), right in front of FSU and McKendree.

The Bulldogs' Alayna Eldred placed tied for fourth overall with a 152 total for the tournament as she shot identical rounds of 76 both days.

Ferris State's Elaina DeRose finished tied for 22nd in the field at 159 with rounds of 78 on Saturday and 81 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, FSU's Abby Grevel wound up tied for 35th at 165, shooting a 78 score in the final round after posting an 87 in the initial 18 holes of action for a nine-stroke improvement.

The Bulldogs' Mackenzie Dale shot a 170 for the two rounds with scores of 88 and 82 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, to come in tied for 54th overall.

Finally, Lauren Kempf placed tied for 63rd for FSU with a 173 total on scores of 90 on Saturday and 83 on Sunday.

Overall, four of FSU's five golfers either matched their first-day score or bettered their performance in the final round on Sunday.

The Bulldogs hit the course again on Monday and Tuesday, March 22-23, taking part in the Findlay Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
