Bulldog Women's Golf Moves Up To Finish Fourth At Walsh Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team moved up a spot and finished fourth overall as play wrapped up in the Walsh Invitational on Monday (April 12) in Canton, Ohio.

The Bulldogs, who shot a 316 figure in the opening round on Sunday, came back with a 322 total at the Glenmoor Country Club and closed the tournament with a 638 figure.

A pair of Bulldogs, Alayna Eldred and Elaina DeRose, placed tied for ninth overall in the field as each shot 155 scores for the 36 holes of action. Both opened the event with a 78 on Sunday before finishing with identical 77's in the final round.

Meanwhile, Dani Staskowski finished tied for 29th with a 163 score on rounds of 80 and 83 over the two rounds. 

FSU's Mackenzie Dale placed tied for 35th overall at 167 as she notched a first-round 80 followed by an 87 in the final round.

Finally, Hope Thebo wrapped up the event in 41st place with a 173 score. She shot a first-round 88 and then lowered her score by three strokes with an 85 in Monday's action.

The event was won by Grand Valley State with a 596 total followed by Findlay in second place (598) and Malone in third (623) in front of FSU. A total of 12 teams took part in the tournament. The individual medalist was Findlay's Jill Schmitmeyer with a 142 total.

The Bulldogs will compete in the GLIAC Championships set for this Friday thru Sunday, April 16-18, in Augusta, Mich.
