Ferris State's Alayna Eldred Tied For 17th After Two Rounds At NCAA East Regional
Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University sophomore golfer Alayna Eldred (Osakis, Minn.) continued action in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf East Regional on Tuesday (May 4) at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
Eldred, who is among four individual qualifiers along with nine teams competing in the East Region Championships, shot an 81 in Tuesday's 18 holes of action and is currently tied for 17th overall in the field after two rounds of play.
The Bulldog sophomore previously shot a 76 in the first round on Monday and now owns a two-round score of 157 or +13 overall on the par 72 course measuring in at 6,181 yards. On Tuesday, she shot a 40 over the front nine and a 41 on the back nine with a birdie and seven pars on the day.
Presently, Findlay's Jill Schmitmeyer and Cailyn Henderson of Indianapolis are tied for first in the tournament with scores of 145 overall (+1) after 36 holes of competition.
The regional event is being hosted by the University of Indianapolis and the final round is set for Wednesday (May 5).
Overall, a total of 48 golfers are in the field and all participants will compete through the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each regional will advance to the national championships, which are slated to take place May 11-15 at TPC Michigan in Dearborn.
An All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First Team honoree this year, Eldred is the first Bulldog women's golfer to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships since Destiny Lawson placed 14th overall at the East Region Championships in 2017.
This season, Eldred took sixth place overall at the 2021 GLIAC Championships held April 16-17 in Augusta, Mich.
Eldred is slated to tee off in the final round on Wednesday starting at 9:20 a.m. (ET).
