FSU's Alayna Eldred Finishes 14th Overall At NCAA-II East Region Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University sophomore golfer Alayna Eldred (Osakis, Minn.) wrapped up action in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf East Regional on Wednesday (May 5) at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

Eldred, who was among four individual qualifiers along with nine teams competing in the East Region Championships, shot a 77 in the final round of action and finished 14th overall. She narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA-II National Championships with the performance.

The Bulldog sophomore previously shot a 76 in the first round on Monday and a 81 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round 234 figure (+18) on the par 72 course measuring in at 6,181 yards.

The individual champion was Cailyn Henderson of Indianapolis, who carded a 219 total (+2) for the 54 holes of action. The regional event was hosted by the University of Indianapolis, which also won the team championship with a 890 score.

Overall, a total of 48 golfers were in the field and all participants competed through the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each regional advanced to the national championships, which are slated to take place May 11-15 at TPC Michigan in Dearborn.

An All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First Team honoree this year, Eldred was the first Bulldog women's golfer to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships since Destiny Lawson also placed 14th overall at the East Region Championships in 2017.

This season, Eldred also took sixth place overall at the 2021 GLIAC Championships held April 16-17 in Augusta, Mich.
