Ferris State Women's Golf Captures Team Championship In First Spring Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team started its spring season off with a bang as the Bulldogs took first place at the BrownGolf Intercollegiate Championships on Friday (March 11) at Whispering Pines in North Carolina.

In FSU's first competition of the spring, the Bulldogs carded a two-round 640 team score to post a 14-hole win over runner-up Gannon in the nine-team field.

The Bulldogs' Alayna Eldred earned medalist honors on the par 72 course measuring 5,803 yards, shooting a 151 score for the 36 holes of action, including a round two 77 mark.

Eldred tied for first overall with teammate Danielle Staskowski, who also shot 151 for the two rounds and came in second overall, but Eldred won a playoff for medalist honors.

The Bulldogs' Abby Grevel finished tied for 15th (168) with Lauren Kempf tied for 22nd (170) and Hope Thebo placed tied for 30th (173).

FSU's Juanita De La Cruz competed as an individual and finished tied for 15th as well in the field with a 168 two-round score.

The event was shorted back to a single day and the 36 holes were contested in two rounds on Friday due to expected weather later this weekend.

The Bulldogs will compete in the Findlay Spring Invitational slated for March 21-22 in Lexington, Ky.
