Ferris State Women's Lowers Score Each Round To Finish 9th At Findlay Spring Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team improved its overall score in each round, finishing ninth overall at the Findlay Spring Invite as play wrapped up on Tuesday (March 22) at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.

The Bulldogs finished the three-round event with a 968 team total, carding an opening round 327 score on Monday before coming back with a 321 and then a 320 in Monday's final 18 holes of action on the par 72 course.

FSU finished in the middle of the pack as the large field consisted of 18 schools from across the country. Host Findlay won the neutral site event in a playoff against Anderson (S.C.) as each team shot a 888 figure for the 54 holes of competition.

Individually, Ferris State was led by standout Alayna Eldred, who finished 30th overall at 236 for the tournament. She shot back-to-back 78 scores on Monday before closing with an 80 in the final round.

Eldred was only one stroke ahead of teammate Dani Staskowski as she carded a 237 for the three rounds, placing tied for 31st in the field. Staskowski fired a 78 in round one followed by an 80 in the second round and a 79 in the final round.

FSU's Hope Thebo finished with a 247 figure, which was good for a share of 56th place overall. She had back-to-back 83's on Monday and came in with an 81 over Tuesday's final 18 holes.

Meanwhile, Abby Grevel shot a 249 for the three rounds and placed 63rd in the field on rounds of 88, 81 and 80, respectively.

The Bulldogs' Lauren Kempf rounded out the FSU lineup in a share of 79th place, finishing with a 257 figure. She shot an 89 in round one followed by a 82 in round two and closed with an 86 on Tuesday.

Ferris State will be back in action on April 4-5 at the NC4K Classic in Blacklick, Ohio.
