Second-Half Goal Lifts Ferris State To GLIAC Women's Soccer Road Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - A second half goal from sophomore Nichole Boehnke broke open a scoreless deadlock and lifted the Ferris State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road shutout over Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Sept. 29) in University Center, Mich.

Boehnke tallied the only goal of the contest at 60:07 of the second half off an assist from teammate Leanne Boehm to give the Bulldogs the victory.  It represented her fourth goal in the last four outings to date this season.

Boehm tallied a team-best seven shots with three on net as the Bulldogs salvaged a weekend split on the road in GLIAC play.  Riley Wood also had three shots on goal with Taylor DiCicco totaling four shots with two on net.  Boehnke also had three shots on the day with two earning scoring opportunities.

Freshman Savanna Wojtanowski played the entire 90 minutes in net for the Bulldogs and made six saves as Ferris State improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

On the opposite side, Kailey Naumcheff went the distance for SVSU and finished with 12 saves as the Cardinals fell to 3-5-1 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

The Bulldogs held a decisive 24-9 edge in total shots and netted 13 on net to only six for Saginaw Valley State in the triumph.

FSU also held a 4-1 edge in corner kick tries and totaled 13 fouls compared to eight for SVSU on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs will return home for two league matches this coming week.  FSU hosts Walsh on Friday (Oct. 4) at 4 p.m. (ET) before meeting Malone on Sunday (Oct. 6) starting at 12 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Soccer Field.
