Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten At Home With Impressive League Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team kept up its impressive play at home as the Bulldogs rolled past Tiffin by a 3-0 score on Friday (Oct. 18) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) afternoon action at the FSU Soccer Field.

FSU received two goals from sophomore forward Nichole Boehnke and scored twice in the opening half while improving to 5-0 at home this season.  The Bulldogs have now outscored the opposition by a 16-1 count in their five home contests to date this campaign.

Boehnke scored the game's opening goal only 6:57 into the first half on a header which came off a corner kick from the Bulldogs' Abby Meirndorf.

The Bulldogs added a second goal a little more than 14 minutes later when Taylor DiCicco scored her fourth goal of the year in front of the net off a pass from the other side.  Both Casey Shauman and junior midfielder Riley Wood picked up assists.

The contest remained 2-0 the rest of the opening half until FSU pushed the lead to three goals at 54:17 of the final period on Boehnke's second goal of the day and seventh of the season.  She converted off a cross pass from the opposite side sent in by Ashley Bradstreet to account for the game's final scoring.

Ferris State had a decisive 32-10 edge in total shots with 16 each period compared to Tiffin's four in the opening half and six in the final 45 minutes of play.

FSU also totaled 13 corner kick tries to only three for the Dragons.  The contest was relatively clean as only a total of five fouls were called.  The Bulldogs were whistled for all four offsides calls made in the afternoon.

Senior goalkeeper Rachel McCollum played the entire 90 minutes in net and made six saves in the victory while TU's Kellie Gruber also went the distance and had eight saves overall.

Boehnke paced the Bulldogs with seven shots, including three on goal.  DiCicco also had three shots on net with Meirndorf recording seven total shots and two on goal.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the GLIAC with the win while TU fell to 3-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in conference action.  FSU's five league victories are the third-most in the GLIAC to date this season.

Ferris State will try to remain unbeaten at home as the Bulldogs wrap up their weekend homestand against Findlay on Sunday (Oct. 20) starting at 12 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Soccer Field.  The Bulldogs have currently won five of their last six contests to date this year.
