Ferris State Soccer Continues School-Record Winning Streak With Late 2OT Game-Winner

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team pulled out a thrilling double-overtime victory in sudden death to extend their school-record winning streak to six consecutive games following a 2-1 triumph over the Concordia Cardinals on Tuesday (Sept. 22) at the FSU Soccer Field.

FSU scored the game-winner with only 32 seconds remaining in the second extra period on a goal from senior defender Hunter Dolan to avoid a game-ending deadlock.

The Bulldogs fell behind early in the first half to the Cardinals when Concordia's Julia Palushaj scored 38 seconds into the match on a deep shot.

The lead stood until the 32nd minute when FSU junior defender Meredith Smith tied the contest up at a goal apiece with her second marker of the year via a deflection in the box. Senior defender Amanda Mathy and freshman Carley Dubbert assisted on the goal.

The Bulldogs had opportunities to take the lead late in the second half and senior forward Nichole Boehnke, who had scored six goals in the past five contests, fired a shot off the cross bar late in regulation in a bid to continue her goal scoring streak.

However,  the contest remained unsettled at 1-1 after 90 minutes and required overtime.

Smith had a chance late in the first 10-minute overtime period, but Concordia goaltender Maria Lulgiuraj made a diving save to send the game to a second extra session.

The tilt remained tied until a key call by head coach Andy McCaslin. With 45 seconds remaining in the second overtime, McCaslin directed his team all the way up for a full-on attack.

A rebounded shot attempt near the net found Dolan, who wired a shot in from outside of the box with 32 seconds left on the clock for the game-winner. The goal was the third of Dolan's career.

Ferris State senior goaltender Maddie Haustein finished with six saves in more than 109 minutes of action to record her sixth-straight victory in net.

Overall, the Bulldogs outshot Concordia 20-17 for the match and came away with the win despite the fact the Cardinals had seven shots on goal to five for FSU.

Ferris State improved to 6-2-0 overall this season with the win while the NAIA Cardinals fell to 5-3-1 on the year.

In the squad's current six-game win streak, Ferris State has outscored its opponents by a 13-2 margin.

The contest wrapped up a four-match homestand for the Bulldgos, who now have four remaining home contest this year.

This weekend, the Bulldogs hit the road to Ohio to first face Malone in Canton on Friday (Sept. 25) at 4 p.m. (ET). FSU then concludes the trip with a visit to Findlay on Sunday (Sept. 27) for a 12 p.m. (ET) encounter. FSU holds a 2-0 mark in the GLIAC heading into the two conference tilts.
