Ferris State Women's Soccer Keeps Momentum Going With Home Shutout Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team kept its momentum going as the Bulldogs extended their school-record unbeaten streak to 10 consecutive contests with a 2-0 home triumph over Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 4) afternoon at the FSU Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs, who have not been beat in a month, stayed unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play by topping the Cardinals before a large home crowd. FSU is now 9-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in league play.

Ferris State jumped on the board first at 34:22 of the opening period when senior forward Casey Shauman found the net for her second goal of the season. Shortly after missing a potential scoring opportunity on a breakaway, Shauman came back to score on a shot following a long pass upfield from senior defender Ashley Bradstreet for the eventual game-winning goal.

The Bulldogs later added the clincher in the second half when senior midfielder Abby Meirndort tallied her second goal in as many contests on a high-arching shot over the SVSU keeper. It was assisted by both Shauman and Meredith Smith on the cross.

Saginaw Valley State generated potential scoring opportunities at various points of the game as they held a 28-21 edge in total shots over the Bulldogs. However, senior goalkeeper Maddie Haustein and the Bulldog defense was up to the task with Haustein making 10 saves in 90 minutes of work to record her sixth shutout victory of the year.

Ferris State also produced more shots on goal than Saginaw Valley State by a 12-10 count. Overall, the Cardinals received eight of the nine corner kick tries in the contest and FSU had 11 fouls to eight for SVSU.

Saginaw Valley State's Kailey Naumcheff also made 10 saves in the setback as the Cardinals fell to 3-7-0 overall and 1-5-0 in league action.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring tries by Rachel Fouts, who registered five shots and three on goal. Both Shauman and freshman Carley Dubbert had four shots each with senior forward Nicole Boehnke notching three shots, all of which were on net.

The win was FSU's third in a row and ninth in the past 10 outings this season. The Bulldogs also improved to 6-0 overall at home this year and have won 10-straight home contests dating back to the middle of last season.

Ferris State's current 9-2-1 overall start this season is the best in school history.

The Bulldogs hit the road next weekend as FSU visits Lake Erie on Friday (Oct. 9) for a 5:30 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Painesville, Ohio. Ferris State then heads to Ashland on Sunday (Oct. 11) with the league match set to begin at 12 p.m. (ET).
