Two Late Goals Lift #13 Winona State Over Bulldogs In Women's Soccer Showdown

Big Rapids, Mich. - A pair of goals with less than two minutes to play lifted host and nationally 13th-ranked Winona State (Minn.) to a 3-2 victory over the Ferris State University women's soccer team in non-league action on Sunday (Sept. 11) in Winona, Minn.

The host Warriors scored twice in the 88th minute of action at Altra Credit Union Stadium to rally from a one-goal deficit against the Bulldogs as FSU wrapped up its weekend trip to Minnesota. Both weekend contests came against nationally-ranked foes as the Bulldogs squared off against 18th-ranked Minnesota State in a 2-0 setback on Friday.

After a scoreless first half of action, Winona State jumped on the board first at 54:16 of the second half when Abby Bohanski scored her first of two goals on the day. Alyssa Reynolds sent a cross to the middle where Bohanski had a wide open shot for the goal.

Ferris State answered as the Bulldogs picked up their first marker in the 68th minute when Mandy Paull tallied her first goal of the campaign on an open field goal assisted by Hilerie Schatzle.

The Bulldogs then moved in front at 80:21 when Alexis Schodowski notched a goal aided by Rachel Fouts along with Paull. The ball was sent to the open field on a pass from Fouts, which led to an open look for Schodowski.

However, Winona State rallied to forge the tie at 88:19 when Courtney Wiencek recorded her first goal off a Reynolds assist.

Soon after, Bohanski notched the game-winner and her second goal off a Meg Riebau assist at 88:57 to give the Warriors the victory.

The Bulldogs were outshot 16-10 for the contest as Winona State tallied nine shots in the second half. They also had six corner kick opportunities to four for Ferris State, but totaled nine fouls to only two for FSU.

Freshman Alison Chesterfield made the start in goal for Ferris State and played the entire 90 minutes with seven saves on the day.

The victory in net went to Winona State's Jourdan Valkner, who tallied three saves in 90 minutes of work for her first win of the season.

Ferris State, which is midst a stretch of five road outings in six contests, will return home to host Ohio Dominican on Friday, Sept. 16, at FSU's Top Taggart Field. The match will get underway at 12 p.m. (ET).
