Ferris State Soccer Drops Close Game In GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team suffered at 2-1 setback to visiting Saginaw Valley State in the Great Lakes Inter Collegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday (Oct. 31) at the South Athletic Fields.

Freshman midfielder Mackenzie Dawes was able to cut a two-goal Cardinal lead in half with 10:33 remaining on what was her fourth goal of the year, but the charge fell short.

SVSU took a 1-0 lead on Jennifer Muana's goal from Amanda Minissale off of a corner kick at 22:55 of the first half.

The Cardinals lengthened their lead to 2-0 at 65:50 of the second frame when Alexis Hilliard scored from Mallory Hestwood on a pass up field for a shot.

Dawes scored on a pass into the box from junior midfielder Carley Dubbert to pull Ferris State within a goal with 10:33 to play.

FSU had a few opportunities down the stretch but was unable to get the equalizer.

For the game, the Bulldogs outshot the Cardinals 29-14, which included a 14-9 shots-on-goal advantage as well. Ferris State fired 16 second-half shots but was unable to even the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield made seven stops for Ferris State in the setback as FSU dropped to 11-8 overall this year.

The Bulldogs were making the program's 10th all-time GLIAC Tournament appearance, including the eighth in a row.

The Bulldogs entered the week as the eighth-ranked team in the region and will await the official NCAA Tournament selections that will be announced on Monday following the completion of the league tournaments.
