Ferris State Carries Play Before Falling In Double OT In Season Opener

Game Highlights & Interview Video

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team fell 2-1 in a double-overtime decision to the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons (UMSL) at home on Friday (Aug. 31) at the new Bulldog Soccer Field in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs boasted the bulk of the chances and had a shots attempted advantage of 34-6, and a shots on goal advantage of 15-3 overall.

In the first half, the Bulldogs held a 10-3 edge in shots on goal, but it was the Tritons who cashed in first at 30:05 when Rose Crabtree scored her first of the year to give UMSL a 1-0 edge.

Ferris State responded at 51:52 when freshman Pia Nagel drilled in her first collegiate goal on an assist from junior Maddie Fouts to even up the game at a goal apice.

In overtime, the Bulldogs had a header that bounced off the fingertips of UMSL goalkeeper Amber Hayes, but it would be as close to a victory as the Bulldogs would come. The Tritons capitalized for the winner at 105:38 in sudden death overtime when Lexi Norton scored on a run.

Junior goalkeeper Grace Kraft made one save and took the loss for the Bulldogs while Hayes picked up the win for UMSL on 13 saves. The Bulldogs had seven corner kick attempts to the Tritons' three in the outing.

The contest marked the debut of the new Bulldog Soccer Field in Big Rapids and it also represented FSU's 2018 regular-season opener.

The Bulldogs finish their season-opening two-game homestand with another regional tilt against the Bellarmine (Ky.) Knights on Sunday (Sept. 2). It will mark the official Grand Opening of the Bulldog Soccer Field with kickoff set for 12 p.m. (ET).
