Bulldogs Match School Records In GLIAC Opening Road Victory

Houghton, Mich. - The nationally 17th-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team tied the program record for longest winning streak at seven in a row with a 1-0 shutout victory at Michigan Tech on Friday (Sept. 21) in Houghton.

The victory came in the Bulldogs' Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener at MTU's Sherman Field Friday evening.

The Bulldogs got the goal they needed from freshman Pia Nagel, who scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year on a cross from the right side of the box to the middle. Senior and Captain Carley Dubbert earned her team-best fourth assist of the season on the goal.

Nagel's game-winning goal is her fourth of the year, which ties the all-time team record for single-season game winning goals, last accomplished by Dubbert last season.

In goal, junior goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield made four saves, all in the second half, for her second shutout of the year to move to 4-0-0 on the season. The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies 9-7, though the Huskies had a 4-3 shots on goal advantage in the game.

MTU's Amanda Young made three saves in the loss and fell to 4-2-1 on the season.

Now at 7-1-0, Ferris State travels to Marquette to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats and cap their seven-game road trip on Sunday (Sept. 23) at 12 p.m. (ET). The GLIAC contest will finish a lengthy road stretch that has spanned three weeks for the Bulldogs.
