Ferris State Falls In GLIAC Tourney Title Match But Expected To Receive First NCAA Berth

Allendale, Mich. - The nationally 14th-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team fell in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship match to the nationally top-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers by a 4-1 score on Sunday Nov. 4) at the GVSU Soccer Field in Allendale.

The Lakers scored three quick strikes in the middle stages of the opening half and opened the scoring at 27:51 when Raemi DeWent scored from Catie Baron.

GVSU went up 2-0 when Riko Sagara scored on a penalty kick at 28:12.

The Lakers capped the first half when they scored again at 29:41 as Ava Cook fired in her 17th goal of the season to make it a 3-0 contest at the break.

Towards the end of the second half, Caitie Baron scored on a run down the right side to cap the scoring and the 4-0 final.

Ferris State junior goalkeeper Grace Kraft made three stops in 45 minutes while fellow junior keeper Alison Chesterfield made one stop in the second half. Kraft took the loss for the Bulldogs and fell to 3-2-2 overall this year.

The Bulldogs were making their first-ever appearance in the GLIAC Tournament Championship contest and now own a 15-3-3 overall record to date this season.

FSU's Bri Rogers, Pia Nagel and Abigail Gilmore were named to the GLIAC All-Tournament team.

Ferris State, which was ranked second in the most recent Midwest Regional rankings, is expected to receive the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth when the official field is announced on the NCAA Selection Show set for Monday (Nov. 5) evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. (ET) at NCAA.com.
