Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer program has earned recognition as one of the nation's top academic programs as announced by United Soccer Coaches.

The United Soccer Coaches unveiled their 2019-20 College Team Academic Award recipients and the Bulldogs were recognized with a cumulative 3.76 grade point average for past academic year.

Ferris State, under head coach Greg Henson, posted the highest grade point average among all Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schools and was third-highest overall in all of NCAA Division II women's soccer.

Additionally, the Bulldogs' 3.76 figure ranked among the top 15 highest GPA's across all divisions in the country, including NCAA Division I, II and III along with NAIA institutions.

A total of 914 soccer teams, including 345 men's squads and 569 women's teams, posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 academic year.

Ferris State is coming off the most successful two-year period in program history. Last fall, the Bulldogs finished 13-5-2 and reached the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals while narrowly missing out on a second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

In addition to the team academic success this past year, the Bulldogs also had a total of 14 student-athletes garner Division II Athletic Directors Association (D2ADA) Academic Achievement Award on an individual basis in 2019-20. A total of 28 suqad members, which represented nearly every eligible student-athlete on the squad, also earned GLIAC All-Academic or All-Academic Excellence Team honors for the fall 2019 campaign.
