Big Rapids, Mich. - Three different goal scorers boosted the Ferris State University women's soccer team past the Davenport Panthers 3-0 on Friday (April 1) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at the South Athletic Complex.

Ferris State junior Grace VerHage continued her hot start to the season with goal and an assist in the match while junior goalkeeper Taryn Meiste earned her third clean sheet of the season.

The Bulldogs scored at 6:26 of the first half when junior Merin McDermott headed in a corner service from VerHage for her first goal of the season. VerHage picked up her team-leading third assist of the season on the play.

Ferris State took a 2-0 lead into halftime when junior Pia Nagel stripped a Davenport defender of the ball and streaked in down the left side before hammering a shot past DU goaltender Samantha Beckles for her second goal of the year.

Later, only 52 seconds into the second half, VerHage struck for her team-leading fourth goal of the season from junior Nikki May, who earned her second assist of the spring campaign for a 3-0 Ferris State lead.

The Bulldogs dominated possesion on the day with a 28-6 lead in shot attempts (14-3 differential in both halves). Ferris State fired 12 shots on goal and allowed only two on the day.

In goal, Meiste's two stops were enough for her fourth win of the season. The shutout is Meiste's sixth career blanking and now ranks as the fifth-most career shutouts in school history.

For the Panthers, Beckles made nine saves in the loss on 12 shots on goal faced.

Through five games, the Bulldogs have allowed only one goal and have a 0.20 goals against average.
