Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 11th-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team used a second half surge for a 4-0 shutout victory over the Davenport Panthers in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Friday (Oct. 1) at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

In a physical match that saw 37 fouls, Ferris State senior Pia Nagel scored twice, including a highlight reel missile from 20 yards out to cap the scoring on the day. Ferris State drew one of its largest crowds in program history as the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) honored retiring Athletic Director Perk Weisenburger after the match.

Late in the first half, Nagel helped open the scoring with her second assist of the campaign when she crossed a pass into the box that junior Payton Price volleyed out of the air with the right foot and past Davenport keeper Samantha Beckles for a 1-0 lead at 43:10 of the first half. Price scored her fourth goal of the season on the play.

The Bulldogs went off for three goals over 14 minutes in the second half. First, at 72:11, Nagel picked up a pass over the top that sprung her on a breakaway from senior Maddie Dickens. Nagel battled the ball past Beckles who came out to challenge and finished for her fifth goal of the year. Dickens earned her third assist of the year on the goal.

Later, at 74:36, Ferris State junior Isabella Zamborini was hauled down and drew a penalty kick. Senior Bri Rogers took it and fired in her sixth goal of the season and extended her school record in career penalty kicks to 10, four more than the next most in school history.

Finally, a little under 12 minutes later, Nagele roped a left footed shot from 20 yards out across the face of the keeper to the top left corner for her sixth goal of the season and 33rd career tally, which was good for fifth most all-time at FSU. Sophomore Sydney Stones picked up her first assist of the campaign on the play.

Within the match, senior Maddie Dickens tied the program record for career appearances as a Bulldog (80) set by Tia VanSuilichem.

Ferris State outshot Davenport 22-9 on the afternoon. Both keepers made three saves. Ferris State freshman Darya Mosallaei moved to 7-1-0 with her fourth complete clean sheet and fifth total shutout on the year. Davenport Keeper Samantha Beckles fell to 0-3-0, allowing four goals on seven shots on goal.

The Bulldogs hit the road to face archrival and nationally top-ranked Grand Valley State University on Sunday (Oct. 3) in Allendale at 1 p.m. (ET). The game will be televised on ESPN3.
