Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 deadlock with the nationally #1-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers on Sunday (Nov. 7) at the South Athletic Complex to wrap up the regular season and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Ferris State senior Pia Nagel had the lone Bulldog goal in the tie. The draw was Ferris State's second of the year with the top-ranked Lakers as neither side has won this season in 220 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs came out and had a 7-2 advantage in shots in the opening half and finally cracked GVSU keeper Kendall Robertson at 26:21 when senior Pia Nagel scored her 10th goal of the season on a rope from the right side that went top corner for a 1-0 Bulldog lead. Senior Bri Rogers picked up the assist, her second of the campaign.

Nagel's goal was the 37th of her career, as she sits alone in third place all-time in program history. Nagel recently passed Bri Borgman (2011, 35 goals), and is four away from second place all-time (Kristie Smilanich, 2007).

Grand Valley State pressed up the field and knotted the game at 1-1 at 83:20 when Cecilia Steinwascher scored from close range late in regulation.

In overtime, the Bulldogs had a late opportunity off the foot of senior Grace VerHage, who tried to catch GVSU's Roberston out of the cage, but Robertson staved it off with 15 seconds to play in the final overtime.

The Lakers had an 18-12 edge in shots for the day with a 4-3 margin in shots on goal. In goal for Ferris State, freshman keeper Darya Mosallaei made three stops, while Robertson made two for the Lakers in the draw.

Ferris State attempted four corner tries while Grand Valley earned six.

The Bulldogs, who cemented the second overall seed in the GLIAC standings, will host the GLIAC Quarterfinal round Tuesday (Nov. 9) at the Bulldog Soccer Field. More information will be posted shortly on the GLIAC Tournament including opponent, game time and more.
