Reigning GLIAC Tourney Champion Ferris State Unveils 2022 Soccer Schedule

REIGNING GLIAC TOURNEY CHAMPION FERRIS STATE UNVEILS 2022 SOCCER SCHEDULE

Big Rapids, Mich. - The reigning Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Champion Ferris State Bulldogs have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2022 fall campaign.

The Bulldogs, who also reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago after capturing their first postseason championship in program history, will embark on a challenging 18-game regular-season slate, which includes nine home contests at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

"We're looking forward to the challenge ahead of us and have set up our schedule to prepare us for both GLIAC competition and potential postseason opportunities," said FSU head coach Greg Henson. "Our conference has developed into one of the top soccer leagues in the country and we'll have to be at our best each and every game."

Ferris State will open its regular-season action on the road with a pair of regional road tilts the first weekend. FSU visits Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) member Maryville on Aug. 25 before making a return back to Michigan to face former in-state league foe and a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opponent in Northwood only three days later on Aug. 28 in Midland.

The Bulldogs then open a four-game homestand on Sept. 2 as FSU entertains another G-MAC school in Ashland, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year. Two days later, FSU takes on Walsh from the G-MAC on Sept. 4. As part of the home contest on Sept. 4, the Bulldogs will hold a GLIAC Championship Ring Ceremony and present members of the 2021 squad with their title rings.

Ferris State then opens its 14-game conference schedule in Big Rapids on Sept. 9, hosting two-time defending NCAA Division II National Champion Grand Valley State. A year ago, the Bulldogs handed the Lakers their only loss of the season to win the GLIAC Tournament Championship in Allendale and FSU finished 1-0-2 versus GVSU in 2021. The conference-opening homestand continues on Sept. 11 as Davenport pays a visit to the Bulldog Soccer Field.

After the lengthy homestand, the Bulldogs make the annual trek across the Mackinac Bridge to face Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, respectively.

Following a weekend in the Upper Peninsula, the Bulldogs welcome Purdue Northwest to town on Sept. 23 for FSU's "Alumni Appreciation Day" contest in which former Ferris State soccer student-athletes will be invited back during homecoming weekend.

The Bulldogs will then hold their annual "Senior Day & Parents Weekend" on Sept. 25 as they play host to Wisconsin-Parkside for a Sunday afternoon affair.

One of the Bulldogs' most difficult stretches of the season follows as FSU closes the month of September and plays the first half of October on the road as part of a five-game road stretch. The stint includes visits to Saginaw Valley State (Sept. 30), Purdue Northwest (Oct. 7), Wisconsin-Parkside (Oct. 9), Davenport (Oct. 14) and Grand Valley State (Oct. 16).

Finally, the Bulldogs close the regular season with three consecutive home outings against Michigan Tech (Oct. 21), Northern Michigan (Oct. 23) and Saginaw Valley State (Oct. 28).

The GLIAC Tournament will begin with quarterfinal-round play on campus sites on Nov. 1 followed by the league semifinals on Nov. 4 and the championship game on Nov. 6. The winner of the conference tournament will receive the GLIAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The Bulldogs posted a 15-3-4 overall record last fall, which included a second-place 9-2-4 conference mark. In additon to capturing the program's first-ever GLIAC Tournament Championship, the Bulldogs stopped eventual national champion Grand Valley State's 14-year title streak and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history.
