Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team opened its trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula by suffering a 3-0 setback at Northern Michigan on Friday (Oct. 4) in Marquette.
The host Wildcats scored twice in the opening half and added a second-half tally while keeping FSU off the board in the league contest.
NMU got on the board first at 7:45 of the opening half when Molly Pistorius scored her third goal of the year assisted by Justina L'Esperance.
The Wildcats added a second goal at 35:44 of the first period as L'Esperance got into the scoring column herself with her fourth goal of the year. Brooke Pietila had the assist.
In the second half, Pietila tallied her fourth goal of the season as well with L'Esperance credited for her second assist of the day. She played a part in all three NMU goals of the contest.
Overall, Northern Michigan held a 17-9 edge in total shots and notched five corner kick tries to only one for Ferris State. The Bulldogs were whistled for 18 fouls and the Wildcast had 15 overall.
The setback was the first GLIAC defeat this year for the Bulldogs, who are now 3-2-3 overall and 2-1-1 in league play.
Ferris State will visit Michigan Tech to wrap up the weekend trip on Sunday (Oct. 6) beginning at 12 p.m. (ET) in Houghton.
