Women's Tennis Drops GLIAC Match At GVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) decision to West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 1) afternoon.

The match was held at the Laker Tennis Courts in Allendale, Mich.

The host Lakers built a 2-1 edge following doubles play and then captured wins at four of the six singles spots to earn the victory.

The Bulldog senior doubles tandem of Amy Ingle and Tiffany Rheynard posted an 8-6 win at the first doubles spot to account for FSU's lone point in doubles play.

In singles action, senior Alina Stanila was a straight-set winner over GVSU's Tara Hayes at the number one flight by identical 6-1 scores.

FSU's other win came from sophomore Tabitha Simpson at the sixth singles spot by virtue of her 6-0, 6-3 triumph over the Lakers' Allison Fecko.

The Bulldogs fell to 6-2 overall and in the GLIAC with the loss while the Lakers remained unbeaten with a 7-0 mark in conference action.

Ferris State returns to the courts on Thursday, Oct. 7, as the Bulldogs host Ashland in league play at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.  Match time is set for 2 p.m. (EDT).
