Ferris State Wins Lengthy League Showdown Over Saginaw Valley State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team closed out its weekend road trip with an exciting 5-4 victory over Saginaw Valley State in a lengthy match on Sunday (Sept. 18) in University Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs claimed two doubles wins and managed to split the six singles flights in notching their second victory of the 2016-17 campaign. FSU is now 2-2 overall and in conference action this season.

In the doubles round, the FSU tandem of Teodora Stefanovic and Nika Hein paired up with post an 8-5 triumph at the number one flight in the lineup. Meanwhile, Ferris State's Sydney Berens and Arien Kissinger were 8-2 winners at the third doubles position as SVSU's lone victory came at the second flight.

Two of the six singles flights went to three-sets with FSU's Hein notching a key 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 victory at the number two flight. Kissinger fell in the other three-setter to Danielle Slonac in close fashion at the fourth flight.

The Bulldogs also received individual wins from Stefanovic at the number one flight and Nicole Stay at six singles as both won in straight-sets. SVSU took the third, fourth and fifth flights in singles competition at the SVSU Tennis Complex.

Ferris State will next take part in the 2016 Intercollegite Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships set for Sept. 23-25 in Grand Rapids.
