Bulldog Women's Tennis Falls In First League Match Of The Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action with a 6-1 setback at rival Grand Valley State on Saturday (Sept. 22) in Allendale.

The Bulldogs suffered a season-opening loss in their initial dual match of the campaign.

FSU's lone win came from freshman Patricia Martin Gomez at four singles as she topped GVSU's Marily Canellopoulos 6-3, 6-7 (0-5), 10-7.

The contest represented the first collegiate league encounter for four newcomers to the Bulldog lineup this year.

Per the new GLIAC rule, the doubles round counted as a single point in the team score. FSU's #2 doubles tandem of Amiena Houston and Sam Stephenson posted a 7-5 win, but GVSU took the first and third flights in the lineup.

Ferris State returns to action at home on Wednesday, Oct. 3, against Davenport with match time set for 6 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.
