Ferris State Begins GLIAC Tourney Play With Quarterfinal-Round Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The top-seeded Ferris State University women's tennis squad opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament action with a 4-0 triumph over Saginaw Valley State on Friday (April 23) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs, who captured the league's regular-season championship for the first time since 2002 this spring, claimed the doubles point and took the first three completed singles contests to garner the win.

With the victory, FSU advances to the league tournament semifinals on Saturday (April 24) and will face fourth-seeded rival Northwood starting at 2:30 p.m. (ET).

In Friday's match, the Bulldogs took the first two completed doubles matches, winning at the first and third flights, to claim the initial point of the match. Both contests were determined by identical 6-4 scores.

Ferris State then came back in singles action to win the match, beating the Cardinals at the first, second and fourth flights in the lineup. Morgan Waller along with Sophie Daavettila and Agata Klak were all straight-set winners for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State improved to 14-1 overall this year with the win and the Bulldogs have now won their last 14 consecutive matches to date this year.
