FSU Preps For League Meet At "Gina" Relays

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field teams took part in the 45th annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays this past weekend (April 29-30) in Hillsdale, Mich.

The meet at Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadium is annually one of the largest in the region and included student-athletes from schools at all levels.

The stadium's lights went out on Friday evening, which forced a delay in the meet.  In addition, strong winds on Saturday caused the sprint races to be run on the east side of ther track, compared to the usual spot on the west side.

Sophomore Zoey Hohmann took fifth place in the 400 meters (57.63) in leading the Bulldog women's contingent.

Sophomore Alyssa Osika placed 11th in the 1,500-meter run invitational field (4:31.09) with freshman Samantha Johnson finishing 12th in the same event (4:31.11).

Senior Paige Onweller was 12th overall in the 1,500 meters (4:44.12) and sophomore Anna Rudd was 13th in the 5,000-meter run invitational (17:15.56).

On the men's side, Bulldog sophomore Ryan Chute took seventh place in the 5,000 meters (15:01.85) while sophomore David Silversmith placed 11th in the same race (15:05.00) of 137 runners in the field.

Justin Price came in 13th overall in the men's 400 meters (50.17) for FSU.

The meet was the final preparation for the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will take place this week (May 4-6) in Midland, Mich.  The conference meet will be hosted by Northwood University and take place on Fisher Track located at Hantz Stadium.

Action at the GLIAC Championships gets underway Wednesday (May 4) with the multi-events.  The rest of the meet starts on Thursday (May 5) at 2 p.m. (ET).  Friday's (May 5) final day of action is slated for a 10:30 a.m. (ET) start with the meet scheduled to conclude at approximately 5 p.m. (ET).
