Bulldog Track Tunes Up For GLIAC Outdoor

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams tuned up one final time for next week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Championships as student-athletes competed in two meets this past weekend.

FSU sent competitors to both the Ashland Invitational held on Friday and Saturday (April 27-28) in Ashland, Ohio, along with the annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays held over a three-day period in Hillsdale, Mich.

Junior Zoey Hohmann won the 400 meters at the Ashland Invitational in a time of 57.01 overall.

Jessica Pilling led the Bulldogs' throwers in Ohio with a third-place effort in the hammer throw (178-9). Meanwhile, Briana Raasio placed 13th in the javelin (106-1).

Senior Justin Price claimed third place in the men's 400 meters at the Ashland Invite as he was clocked in a time of 50.03 on the day.  Additionally, he came in sixth overall in the 200 meters (23.26).

Ryan Stankey came in 12th in the shot put (48-11.76) to lead the men's throwers at Ashland.

FSU also had athletes take part in the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays where Shea Van Klompenberg placed fourth in the 400 meters (59.65).  Jordan McGuire placed fifth in the open 5,000 meters (18:01.48).

Breeann Ovokaitys came in 10th in the 1,500 meter open field (4:53.49) at Hillsdale with junior Shelby Janutol finishing 10th in the championship field of the 1,500 meters (4:33.28) while surpassing the national provisional qualification time.

On the men's side, junior Ryan Chute placed third in the open division of the "Gina" Relays in the 1,500 meters (3:56.67) with Blake Garver came in seventh (4:00.68) and Alex Bladecki took 10th (4:01.52).

Tyler Crossman captured sixth place in the 5,000-meter open race (14:51.66). Finally, Sean Steeno took seventh place in the men's open 100 meters (11.22) while Kyle Garner was ninth in the open division of the 400-meter hurdles (57.60).

The Bulldogs will compete in the 2012 GLIAC Outdoor Championships May 3-5 in Allendale, Mich.
