Ferris State Notches Several Personal-Bests In GVSU Big Meet Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Grand Valley State Big Meet over the weekend in Allendale.

The event took place with two seperate competitions on both Friday and Saturday featuring some of the top athletes from across the region and the country. A number of FSU student-athletes notched personal bests in the event.

Ferris State senior Stanley Williams won Saturday's open division of the men's long jump with a performance of 6.99 meters.

Sophomore Ben Menapace placed 19th in the 400 meters (50.53) on Saturday. Freshman Forrest Akers placed 19th in the shot put (12.49m).

Ferris State's Brett Robertson, Logan Williams, Ethan Hamilton and Menapace also placed ninth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:28.28).

In Saturday's women's action, the Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay team of Madison Hammer, Carissa Schurr, Katelyn Hutchinson and Callie Delaney came in fourth overall (4:16.90). FSU was also 12th in the distance medley open with the tandem of Taylor Thrush, Kylie Hutchinson, Schurr and Etelamaki clocking 12:05.02.

Sophomore Brianna Copley took 15th place in the open field of the shot put (12.29m).

Meanwhile, on Friday, Bulldog senior Katie Etelamaki placed 15th in heat one of the 5,000 meters in a time of 17:16.99. Sophomore Paige Deitering came in 10th in the sixth section of the event with a personal-best time of 18:44.00.

FSU's Brandon Wirth finished seventh in heat eight on Friday of the men's 5,000 meters (16:06.44) with sophomore Mark Jacobs coming in 13th in the same heat (16:11.87).

The Bulldogs will take part in the Saginaw Valley State Tune-Up meet on Friday (Feb. 21) in University Center before returning to Allendale for the GLIAC Indoor Championships slated for Feb. 29-March 1.
