Bulldog Outdoor Track Squads Roll Up 29 Top-Nine Event Finishes At Hillsdale Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads recorded a total of 29 top-nine event performances on Saturday (April 10) as the Bulldogs competed in the Hillsdale Invitational held at the Ken Herrick Track in Hillsdale, Mich.

The non-scoring competition included student-athletes from many West Michigan schools and institutions across the region.

Overall, the Bulldog women's team placed in the top nine a total of 15 times with the men notching 14 such efforts, including a pair of first-place finishes.

On the women's side, FSU's Kylie Hutchinson came in third overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:32.00).

Sydney Kubiak placed third in the 1,500 meters (5:01.32) and Hutchinson came in sixth (5:09.18) in the event.

In the 400 meters, Makayla Roberts was third (1:04.25) and Megan Dopheide placed fourth (1:06.08). Allyson Faulkner recorded a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.50) and Carissa Schurr wound up seventh in the 800 meters (2:27.57).

In the field events, FSU's Brianna Copley was the runner-up in the shot put (44-8.75) and Kennedy Riebschleger took seventh place (37-1). Claudia Wilkinson tied for second place in the high jump (5-2.25) and Emma Stephayn was the runner-up in the hammer throw (169-1). Riebschleger placed fifth in the javelin (105-10) and eighth in the hammer (137-7).

The Bulldog women's 4x400-meter relay team of Faulkner, Hutchinson, Claudia Wilkinson and Schurr placed fourth (4:12.78) with a second quartet of Madison Hammer, Dopheide, Hanna Brock and Katrina Droski coming in seventh (4:34.92).

The Bulldogs' Aaron Jarema won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:40.51) with Brandon Wirth finishing third overall (10:00.06) in the same race. Brett Robertson was second in the 400-meter hurdles (54.11) and also fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.12).

Ferris State's Donis Harris was the runner-up in the 5,000 meters (15:01.86) with Nick Dennison third (15:41.32) and Weston Rackley eighth (16:03.11) in the event.

Meanwhile, Ben Menapace was fourth in the 400 meters (50.98) and Ethan Hamilton took sixth place in the 1,500 meters (4:10.38). Lukas Sawusch finished seventh in the 100 meters (11.72) and Menapace also came in ninth in the 200 meters (22.65).

In the field events, Jason Keena took first place in the javelin (167-7) and Travis Feldpausch was second (124-10).

FSU's men's 4x400-meter relay squad of Menapace, Hamilton, Brendan Deneen and Robertson placed third (3:27.55).

The Bulldogs will next compete at the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State on April 16-17 in Allendale, Mich.
