Ferris State Track Teams Run Strong In Day One Action At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads opened action in the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Thursday (May 6) at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia.

The Bulldogs braved sometimes rainy and wet conditions in the annual league event, which is being hosted by Davenport University. The bulk of the meet began on Thursday and wraps up with final events on Friday.

The Bulldog men scored eight points on the day and currently sit sixth overall while the women's squad notched six points and is ninth heading into day two action at one of the country's most competitive conference meets.

Ferris State's Kennedy Riebschleger took sixth place in the javelin (31.78m) and Emma Stephayn was sixth in the hammer throw (47.76m) for the women's squad. Riebschleger also came in 12th overall in the hammer (38.52m).

Katelyn Hutchinson placed ninth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:48.85). Hannah Loucks finished 10th in the 10,000 meters (39:26.83).

FSU's Claudia Wilkinson clocked 16.49 in the 100-meter hurdles and narrowly missed advancing to the finals. Meanwhile, Carissa Schurr had the 10th-best overall time in the 800 meters (2:19.01) and was one spot away from advancing.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs' Jason Keena placed third in the javelin (50.51m) in leading the Bulldogs.

Aaron Jarema placed seventh overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:34.17). Weston Rackley was 11th overall in the 10,000 meters (32:58.70).

Ben Menapace advanced to the finals in the men's 400 meters with a clocking of 50.60, which was eighth-best overall. The Bulldogs' Travis Feldpaush also wound up 12th in the javelin (36.04m).

The final day of action gets underway on Friday with field events starting at 11 a.m. (ET) and the running events at 11:15 a.m. (ET).
