Bulldogs Sweep Hillsdale In GLIAC Action On Saturday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team bounced back to hand Hillsdale its first home loss in 35 months with a 3-0 decision on Saturday (Sept. 15) afternoon at Jesse Philips Arena in Hillsdale, Mich.

The 19th-ranked Bulldogs, who fell in a 3-2 heartbreaker at Northwood on Friday night, improved to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC with the victory.

FSU took the opening set 25-21 and then reeled off victories of 25-22 and 25-12 in the second and third frames, respectively.

Hillsdale fell to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in conference action with the setback, which came after they had opened league play with a win over Grand Valley State on Friday night.

The Bulldogs were led by senior middle hitter Anne Sutton's match-high 14 kills.  Freshman outside hitter Megan Vander Meer added 12 kills and seven digs with sophomore outside hitter Courtney Rehm contributing 11 kills and 10 digs.

FSU also received 17 digs by junior libero Brandie Merren and senior setter Samantha Fordyce tallied 35 assists.

Ferris State hit .349 for the match with 47 kills on 106 total attacks.  The Bulldogs also managed 50 digs, seven total blocks and two service aces.

Meanwhile, Hillsdale was led by Jenalle Beaman's eight kills.  Bailey Lindner totaled 14 digs and Sydney Lenhart posted 17 assits.

FSU held the Chargers to a .148 attack percentage and 35 total kills.  The Chargers finished with 41 digs, six blocks and four aces.

Ferris State returns home next weekend to continue league play as the Bulldogs host conference newcomers Walsh and Malone on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 21-22), respectively.  FSU opens the weekend versus Walsh on Friday at 7 p.m. inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.
