Bulldog Volleyball Dominates Michigan Tech In GLIAC Home Tilt

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team made quick work of Michigan Tech on Friday (Oct. 26) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division play as the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 win over the Huskies at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids.

FSU was a 25-6, 25-17, 25-20 winner over MTU as the Bulldogs improved to 18-5 overall and 11-1 in the GLIAC.  MTU dropped to 9-16 overall and 4-8 in league action.

The match was the first of three consecutive home matches for the Bulldogs, who host Northern Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 27) at 3 p.m. (ET) and then face rival Grand Valley State for the second time this season on Tuesday (Oct. 30) beginning at 7 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldogs utilized 13 different players in the match as they dominated from start to finish versus the Upper Peninsula foe.

Senior middle hitter Anne Sutton notched 10 kills for the Bulldogs while FSU also received six from sophomore outside hitter Courtney Rehm.  Meanwhile, senior setter Samantha Fordyce totaled 27 assists in the victory.

Ferris State hit an impressive .325 for the match, including a .433 showing in the final frame.  Meanwhile, they limited MTU to a -.048 figure that also included a -.484 mark in the opening set.

In the opening set, the Bulldogs picked up a decisive 25-6 win despite having only four kills.  The effort was aided by 17 attack errors from the Huskies in the first frame.

The Bulldogs had 39 digs, six blocks and five service aces compared to MTU's 38 digs, four aces and two blocks.  Both teams had five service errors.

The Bulldogs received eight digs from Rehm along with nine from junior libero Brandie Merren, seven by senior Paige Wyers and six from senior outside hitter Aly Brecht.  Merren also had three of the Bulldogs' five service aces while Brecht had a team-high four total blocks.

Michigan Tech was paced by Sylvie Rokosh's match-high 12 kills.  Madeline Haben had 23 assists and Jacqueline Aird netted nine digs.

The victory was the Bulldogs' 12th in their last 14 outings to date this season. They also improved to 54-14 all-time against the Huskies with the triumph.
