Volleyball Snaps Northwood's Unbeaten League Streak In Regular-Season Finale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team capped regular-season play in style with an impressive 3-0 sweep over league leader Northwood on Saturday (Nov. 10) afternoon inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs pulled out a 25-20, 25-16, 25-19 victory to snap NU's unbeaten conference streak as the Timberwolves were looking to cap league regular-seasonn play with a perfect 18-0 record.

FSU finished the regular-season with a 23-6 overall mark and a 17-1 conference record as the runner-up behind Northwood in the GLIAC North.

Ferris State will be the number two seed for the GLIAC Tournament and host a quarterfinal-round home match on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Ewigleben Sports Arena starting at 7 p.m. (ET) against Wayne State.

The Bulldogs dominated the match with the Timberwolves as FSU hit .327 for the day and compiled 42 kills with only eight attack errors.  Meanwhile, they held Northwood to a .115 figure on 37 kills with 23 errors.

Senior outside hitter Aly Brecht had 13 kills in her final regular-season home match while adding six digs for the Bulldogs.  FSU also received 10 kills from senior middle hitter Anne Sutton along with 10 by junior middle hitter Angi Kent.

Senior setter Samantha Fordyce netted 36 assists for the Bulldogs while adding nine digs.  Junior libero Brandie Merren contributed 11 digs and senior defensive specialist Paige Wyers had 10 digs for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State finished with 53 digs, eight block assists, two solo blocks and two service aces in comparison to NU's 49 digs, four block assists and two aces.  Both teams had five service errors.

The Timberwolves received 12 kills from Julia Pakhomenko and 10 by Tatjana Rajic.

The victory avenged an earlier 3-2 Northwood win over FSU in Midland in the conference opener for both teams back in September.
