Bulldogs Soar Past Cedarville In Ferris State Invitational Finale

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's volleyball team finished its own home invitational on a strong note as the Bulldogs defeated the Cedarville (Ohio.) Yellowjackets by a 3-0 score on Saturday (Sept. 7) evening.

The Bulldogs cruised in three-straight sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-16) and with the win they concluded the Ferris State Invitational with a 3-1 overall record.  Cedarville fell to 2-2 overall with the setback. 

The Bulldogs featured a balanced attack in the victory.  Sophomore outside hitter Alexis Huntey was the only Bulldog player to reach double-figures in kills with a match-best 15 in the contest.
 
In addition, FSU received 11 digs from senior libero Brandi Merren along with 22 assists and eight digs by freshman setter Stephanie Sikorski.  Sophomore Megan Vander Meer added eight digs and six assists while sophomore Danielle Dowd managed to dig up eight of her own.  Senior middle hitter Angi Kent totaled four block assists with Caroline Heitzman netting seven kills.
 
On the other side, Abby Shelton tallied a team-high nine kills for Cedarville with Stephanie Rogers adding five.  Angela Becker had 18 digs, Shelton tallied 11 digs and Lori Inkrott scooped up nine digs.
 
Ferris State finished with 43 digs to go along with 35 kills, 28 assists, six service aces and 12 total blocks.  FSU hit .277 for the match.
 
The Yellow Jackets posted only a .018 attack percentage and had 30 kills, 49 digs along with both three blocks and three service aces.  They were limited to a -.093 hitting figure in the final third set as the Bulldogs rolled to the win.
 
The Bulldogs will next take part in the Petty Martin Challenge hosted by Central Missouri on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 13-14) in Warrensburg, Mo.  FSU will face Winona State (Minn.) in the opening match on Friday starting at 1 p.m. (ET).
