Ferris State Falls To Nationally-Ranked Washburn On Day Two In Home Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the 2013 campaign against nationally-ranked Washburn (Kan.) on Saturday (Sep. 7) afternoon in the FSU Invitational at the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs took the first set 25-22, but the Ichabods came back to win the next three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 26-24 to win the match. 
 
Ferris State had 10 different players see game action in the losing effort.  The attack was led by sophomore outside hitter Alexis Huntey, who totaled 15 kills.  Meanwhile, Caroline Heitzman added 11 kills to help the FSU cause.
 
Freshman setter Stephanie Sikorski added to the Ferris attack by contributing 40 assists and nien digs.  Senior Libero Brandi Merren also put her stamp on the match by recording 20 digs.

FSU also received 15 digs from Danielle Dowd to go with nine digs and seven kills from Megan Vander Meer.

The Bulldogs were limited to a .167 attack percentage while tallying 49 total kills and 77 digs.  FSU had nine and a half team blocks.
 
Washburn (Kan.) was led by Marissa Cox, who posted a match-high 16 kills.  Freshman Leanna Willer contributed 14 kills and 13 digs while Sarah Vicory recorded 15 kills of her own.
 
Senior Setter Abby Whittman racked up 40 assists and 23 digs for Washburn.
 
Overall, the Ichabods edged the Bulldogs with 58 kills, 50 assists and 89 digs.  They also added four blocks and five service aces.

The Bulldogs fell to 2-1 overall this season with the setback.

FSU will look to get back on the winning track this afternoon against Cedarville (Ohio.) at 5 p.m. (ET) in the finale of the Ferris State Invitational at the Ewigleben Sports Complex.
