Ferris State Volleyball Rolls To Seventh-Straight Victory & Still Atop GLIAC Standings

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 22nd-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven consecutive matches as the Bulldogs recorded a 3-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home win over visiting Tiffin on Friday (Oct. 4) night inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 11-3 overall and remain the GLIAC's lone unbeaten team in conference play with a 6-0 league record.

Ferris State took the opening set in decisive fashion by a 25-12 score and posted a 25-20 win in the second frame to build a 2-0 advantage in the match.  However, Tiffin came back to win the third set 25-14 before the Bulldogs closed the door with a 25-13 win in the fourth frame.
The Dragons fell to 5-5 overall and 1-5 in league action with the setback.

Junior outside hitter Courtney Rehm paced a balanced Bulldog attack with a team-high 16 kills.  Meanwhile, sopomore Alexis Huntey added 13 kills while senior middle hitter Angi Kent contributed seven and Caroline Heitzman had six.

The Bulldogs hit .233 for the match and recorded 50 kills to only 41 for the Dragons while limiting TU to a .049 attack percentage.  Tiffin had a negative hitting percentage in two of the four sets while finished at .000 in the final fourth set.  The Bulldogs got stronger as the match went on and hit .242 in the third frame followed by .344 in the clinching set.

FSU had 52 total digs with senior libero Brandie Merren leading the way with 16 in the contest.  Rehm and Huntey both chipped in with nine apiece.  Freshman setter Stephanie Sikorski had 41 assists to help the Bulldog cause.

Both teams finished with eight blocks in the match with Heitzman posting a match-best six block assists.

Ferris State also had four service aces and four errors as both sophomore Megan Vander Meer and Rehm tallied two aces each.

Tiffin was led by Danielle McQuade, who had a match-high 18 kills.  Jordan Jenkins totaled 24 digs with McQuade adding 15 and Lu Phillips totaling 12 on the night.  Tiffany Buchinger recorded 28 assists.

Overall, Tiffin had 67 digs, two aces and seven service errors.

Ferris State will wrap up a three-match homestand in league play by hosting Ohio Dominican on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 5 p.m. (ET) following the homecoming football contest in Big Rapids.
