Bulldog Volleyball Cruises Past Findlay In GLIAC Home Contest

Big Rapids, Mich.-  The nationally-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team cruised to another impressive victory as they defeated Findlay by a score of 3-0 on Friday (Oct. 18) afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) matchup at the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

FSU won in three-straight sets (25-16, 25-15, 25-14) to raise its overall record to 14-4 on the year along with 9-1 in the GLIAC.  With the loss, Findlay dropped to 12-7 and 5-5 in conference play.

Sophomore outside hitter Alexis Huntey led the charge as she tallied 13 kills and nine digs for FSU in the victory.  Junior teammate Courtney Rehm added seven kills of her own to go along with four digs.  Senior libero Brandie Merren posted eight digs on the night in a balanced effort for the Bulldogs.

In addition, freshman setter Stephanie Sikorski was the game's assist leader with 33 on the night while sophomore outside hitter Megan Vander Meer added eight kills and two digs. FSU also received four kills, three block assists and a solo effort from Caroline Heitzman.

A total of 12 Bulldog players saw action in the dominating win.  Kaley Konjarevich came off the bench to lead FSu with two service aces in the match.

On the other side, Findlay was led by outside hitter Mackenzie Vorst, who put up 10 kills, three digs and one service ace with junior Lindsy Reindel aiding the cause with another five kills.  Balance was brought to the Oiler attack from junior setter Amanda Calhoun, who attained 26 assists.  Brittany Hall had 11 digs for UF.

In all, Ferris State was able to dominate the stat sheet as FSU led in kills (40-29), assists (36-29), digs (31-29) and blocks (8-1).  The Bulldogs were stifling on the defensive end, holding the opposition to a .107 attack percentage over three sets and hitting an impressive .425 themselves.

FSU hit .591 in the opening set as the Bulldogs took control of the match and totaled a .333 attack figure or better in all three frames.  Meanwhile, Findlay's highest attack percentage in a set was only .125 in the second.

The 22nd-ranked Bulldogs will hit the court for another conference matchup on Saturday (Oct. 19) as the Bulldogs host Wayne State at 3 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.  FSU is currently 9-1 overall at home to date this season in Big Rapids.
