#15 Ferris State Volleyball Stays Unbeaten In GLIAC With Road Sweep At Wayne State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 15th-ranked Ferris State University volleyball squad remained unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play after the opening weekend of conference play as FSU swept Wayne State by a 3-0 count on Saturday (Sept. 13) in Detroit.

The Bulldogs, who won on the road in their league opener at Saginaw Valley State on Friday evening, started quickly again by topping the Warriors 25-14 in the first set. FSU then captured the second frame in close fashion 33-31 before rolling to a 25-14 triumph to seal the match with the third-set victory.

Ferris State improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC with the win while WSU fell to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Both of FSU's setbacks this season have come against teams currently found in the nation's top five overall.

The Bulldogs posted their best attack figure of the season to date as they hit .364 for the afternoon, including an impressive .533 showing in the third set. FSU also limited the Warriors to only a .158 percentage.

Both junior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman and junior outside hitter Alexis Huntey tallied 12 kills each with sophomore Megan Vander Meer adding 10 kills to help the Bulldog cause. Huntey had 13 digs with libero Danielle Dowd and sophomore setter Stephanie Sikorski adding 11 digs each.
Sikorski paced the offensive attack with 44 assists in the match and she also added four block assists at the net. Meanwhile, Heitzman also had four block assists in addition to a solo block while Vander Meer had three solo efforts.

The Warriors were led by Michelle Asiedu's team-high 10 kills. Heather Weiss chipped in with nine kills while Grace Frazee also had nine overall. Madison Kielty totaled 12 digs and Madison Reeves added 10 along with 37 assists.

Overall, Ferris State finished with 49 kills and had only nine errors on 110 total attacks. The Bulldogs netted 53 digs, seven service aces and nine total blocks compared to WSU's 45 digs, four aces and three blocks. The Warriors posted 40 kills with 21 errors and finished with four aces, but they also had five service errors.

Ferris State returns home to host Walsh in the Bulldogs' home opener on Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena. FSU then faces Malone on Saturday, Sept. 20, starting at 3 p.m. (ET) in a league home encounter.
