#2 Ferris State Volleyball Stays Unbeaten With Decisive Road Win At Walsh

Canton, Ohio – Nationally second-ranked Ferris State University defeated the Walsh Cavaliers on Friday (Sept. 25) night in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action to move to 11-0 to start the 2015 season.

The victory was also FSU's 18th consecutive regular season triumph dating back to last year.

The Bulldogs defeated the Cavaliers 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-23) and now own the longest active regular season win streak amongst current Ferris State programs. They were previously tied with the #4 Ferris State football team with 17consecutive regular season victories.

Senior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer, who is a week removed from being the national player of the week, powered Ferris State offensively, finishing with 15 kills.

The senior was relatively quiet until the third set when Vander Meer turned in nine kills. At one point, Vander Meer had five consecutive Bulldog kills in the deciding set.

Senior middle hitter and reigning GLIAC Player of the Week Caroline Heitzman finished with 12 kills while senior outside hitter Alexis Huntey posted 10 on the night.

The Bulldogs shared the load defensively with sophomore libero Lauren Reminga finishing with a team-best 11 digs. Senior libero Danielle Dowd and Vander Meer each had 10 in the victory.

The Cavaliers made it interesting in the final set, which was aided by their 12 block assists. They had 33 digs to the Bulldogs' 53 overall.

Freshman outside hitter Paolo Ferrario had a team-leading four block assists to pace the Cavaliers, who hung around until the end of the third set after starting slowly. Ferris State finished with six block assists.

Ferris State overwhelmed Walsh, hitting .366 overall on the night, with a .577 mark in the opening set. The Cavaliers hit .110 for the match.

The Bulldogs 11-0 start represents their best regular-season start since the 2011 Ferris State team won 16 of its first 17 matches. The 2011 team's longest win streak was also at 11 in a row.

The Bulldogs will stay in Canton to take on the Malone Pioneers on Saturday (Sept. 26) at 1 p.m. (ET) before a non-conference match-up with the nation's #10-ranked Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals directly after at 3:30 p.m. (ET) in Canton.
